The luxury bags I took with me on holiday to Santorini

Last week I spent a week in Santorini for my sister’s wedding – a breathtakingly beautiful Greek island in the Aegean Sea. I have never taken any luxury bags with me on holiday before, but this time I wanted to use at least one.

My very first thought was to take the Neverfull GM as my hand luggage, because it’s large enough to fit everything and the kitchen sink! However, I knew I would probably only use it for the flight, and not during the actual holiday. I also know that if I do have a big bag with me I will end up filling it with things I don’t necessarily need.

So, I decided to take my classic Speedy 30. While it still fits a hell of a lot inside, it’s not too big. I was already wearing my comfortable clothes for the journey (leggings and a hoody) and I just popped a pair of fluffy socks in my bag – I’m always freezing cold when flying! I also had my passport, keys, phone, earphones, purse, lip balm and a book. I didn’t need much else so the Speedy was the perfect choice. I knew I would use it throughout my holiday, not during the day but on an evening when going out for dinner.

However, I assumed most nights I would prefer something smaller so I decided to also take my vintage Trousse 23. I didn’t want to pack my Speedy away in my suitcase – I was far too nervous incase it went missing so I wanted it with me at all times! I decided to take my Trousse in my hold luggage (I was still nervous about it, but a little less so). It was a great choice because I used it mainly as a makeup bag, and then on an evening I would empty everything out as use it as a clutch.

I absolutely love how it looked dressed up on an evening. You really can’t beat the vintage monogram canvas, it worked with every outfit. It was the perfect clutch bag, big enough for my phone, money, hotel key and a bit of makeup (with room to spare). I carried it in my hand or tucked it under my shoulder.

Those were my only two luxury pieces I risked taking, and I’m so glad I did. I feel like if you can’t use and enjoy your bags without worry, what is the point in having them?

I also decided to take a bag from the high-street as another evening option. I think that straw/wicker bags are perfect for holidays, they look so summery, so I took this black one from Zara. It is such a cute size, I love the bamboo handle, the gold hardware and the fact it also comes with a long strap – great for hands-free evening strolls along the sea front!

I don’t think I would ever use an expensive bag around water or sand, so during the day I opted for a very cheap beach bag! I feel like I covered all bases with my choices, and I would definitely use my luxury pieces on holiday again. Even if you take just one, use it as your hand luggage so it is with you at all times – that definitely put me at ease!

I’d love to hear from you. Do you use luxury bags when you travel? If so, which ones? And if not, why not?
